Craftswoman, Papermaker, Paper Artist
and Author I have produced handmade paper for sale since 1976. I trade
under the name of Handmade Plant Papers.
In 1980 my husband and I designed and built a studio/workshop equipped
with papermaking machinery including a unique drying system. I grow
plants, gather material from field and hedgerow and have made sample
sheets from over one hundred species of plants. In 1983 I met Dr. Ragab
of the Papyrus Institute and followed up his experimental work using
other vegetable materials than Nile reed in the papyrus manner. I make
art works of both handmade paper and vegetable papyrus.
I am a member of I.A.P.M.A (the International Association of Papermakers
and Artists) and have taken part in their conferences in Spain, Switzerland,
Germany, Italy, Hungary, Denmark, USA and Canada. I am currently Chair
of PaperWEIGHT.
I have written articles and been featured in magazines on both hand
papermaking and vegetable papyrus, including a description of my tour
of 14 Japanese papermakers. I have also made a video film and published
alimited edition book on Japanese papermaking. I have written and published
my own books and pamphlets on papermaking and vegetable papyrus and
was commissioned to write 'Handmade Paper', published by Apple Press
which includes advice on growing all the plants used in the illustrated
examples.
