Most of
my life has been based in the north of England and the colours and textures
of the landscape have influenced my work to a great degree.
I have lived on the edge of the coast and watched the changing patterns
of the sea and have been inspired to try to capture the essence of the
light and to experiment with differnet mediums to see where the journey
would take me. I leads me to make paper, as well as to paint on it,
and to recycling, all of which I found really exciting; particularly
when I realised that I could stitch paper and manipulate it in many
different ways.
Being something of a magpie when it comes to learning new techniques,
I want to go on experimenting, so cannot really predict what will happen
next, but greatly value all that I learn from other artists. Fine artists-painters
are not always willing to divulge their secrets, but I have to say that
I have found all papermakers more than willing to help others and can
say a big thankyou for that.
