From a background in microbiology, I have become a textile artist, having a diploma in stitched textiles from East Berkshire College. My interest in paper developed having been introduced to papermaking during a City and Guilds course in creative embroidery. This was in 1985 and I have been making paper and papier-maché bowls ever since. I am particularly interested in creating texture and grid forms in my paper. I incorporate my paper into hangings and papier-maché structures, where I embellish it with colour and stitching.

My inspiration comes from my travels, particularly to India. I use the textures and colours that I find there in most of my work. My work is usually large and highly coloured but I often feel the need to hide the colour by covering the surface with white paint, allowing tantalising glimpses of colour to show through. I think this reflects how I feel about India. How there is colour and vibrancy, but at the same time, the monochrome of poverty
